Arugam Bay - A product of DSI !!!!!!!!

A foot ware brand is becoming popular in Sri lanka., Every one knows it as Arugam Bay.A typical rubber slippers (flip flop) that has various colours. Price ranges from Rs.650 to Rs.750.These are not available in every foot ware shop, only in selected shops.(ODEL.NoLimit,Cotton Collection, etc.)
A trusted source told me that it is a product of DSI, a local foot ware manufacturer. They use synthetic rubber which is cheaper than the natural rubber(no need to treat the synthetic rubber) and sells it  for a higher price where they can keep high margins                                                                                                                                             Arugam Bay has firstly launched in  Bangalore India

and then introduced to Sri Lanka. How ever the brand has created a unique position in flip flop market in Sri Lanka.
DSI has created a new brand that can serve up market customers, which is a success.

KIK cola -Can it Beat Coca Cola???

This week end news papers, there were several advertisements about a new 'Cola', called kik. From the name it gives the impression that it is going to compete with coke, that sells in more than 100 countries around the world..I thought that KIK is going to kik it's own ass by compete with coke. The advertisement tells "Lankan to the last Drop". All of the cola brands failed in sri lanka because of their terrible taste and poor distribution.(shaa cola,my cola).I thought why not KIK.
But guess what?? It is a product of Ceylon Cold Stores or Elephant House, the market leader for the soft drinks in Sri Lanka..Elephant house soft drinks has popular mostly in village and semi urban areas. It was previously known as the funeral drink. But with the advertising campaigns and branding it gain some sort of novelty.
The taste was not bad.But it is not like Coke.KIK  200ml bottle is Rs.30, (COKE-175ml-Rs.30).and also available in 300ml and  PET bottles. They have changed the shape of their bottle. It is simple. It is available in almost all the shops.Elephant House doesn't have any problem with distribution. They have a strong distribution channel that goes to every"petti kade"and every corne of the island. But why don't they call it "Elephant Cola" instead of KIK Cola??.May be CCS may not have confidant about the KIK or they may want to give a complete different experience to the young crowed.
Hope KIK can make a difference  in the Cola market in Sri lanka ,competing with multinational giants.
(Cola drinks are not good for your health)
  • There was a cola brand called "kik", a long lost cola brand.
